Graymont Elementary School
Graymont, Illinois
k-8th grade
In the fall of 2022, I was the art teacher at a Graymont Elementary School one day a week, the semester before I student taught. This job taught me the importance of thinking on my toes and using supplies in a creative and sparing way. The art "classroom" was the bus garage. That being said technology, resources, and art supplies were very limited. I loved teaching here and it was such an amazing experience to have before I headed into student teaching. It really prepared me to be adaptable in the classroom!

Lesson Example
My 6-8th grade classes had a total of 15 students, so this allowed for a lot of one on one help with students which was so fun! I got to do a lot of projects that you wouldn't be able to do in a full class of 20+ students. One of my favorite lessons I taught was a recycled materials animal. I collected all the recycled boxes, plastic bottles, cardboard, egg carton, food containers, ect. from the school and my friends. I brought them into class and they created their animal bodies using only glue, tape, and recycled garbage. They LOVED it! We then spent time to decorate our creations with feathers, paint, fabric, paper, and anything they could find in my cabinet.
