Library Lesson Plan

Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 3 - Planning for Differentiated Instruction – The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.

Description: For my library lesson plan, my classmate and I created a positive and negative space paper cutting lesson. This was a very fun but challenging lesson. Using the big idea of identity, students were to create a scene that represented them in some way. They used watercolor and paper-cutting to create a positive and negative space piece.

Rationale: This was a great lesson for all ages because we had a lot of different accommodations for students to use to help them simplify it or make it more complex. It was a really fun lesson that students could personalize however they wanted.

Nostalgia Photography Lesson plan

Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 5 - Instructional Delivery – The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.

Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.

Description: I created a photography lesson plan were students will be creating a photo series inspired by artists Maxi Magnano and Lucas Zimmerman. They will be using the big idea of memory and nostalgia to capture images and edit them in a way that expresses those ideas and feelings.

Rationale: I created this lesson plan because I will be teaching a photography class when I am student teaching next semester. They will be learning about composition, lighting, and will be introduced to photoshop, so I created a lesson plan that touches on all of those aspects.

Literacy Lesson

Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 6 - Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication – The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.

Description: This is a short nearpod for students to read and write about the main artist for this lesson, Maxi Magnano. By reading an interview conducted with him where he explains his thought process and inspirations when doing photography, students will hopefully gain inspiration for their photo series.

Rationale: I created this as a formative assessment for this lesson. It will give me a sense of what students think about this artist, his intentions, choices, and influences.

Teaching Philosophy

7M: articulates a logical rationale for the role of the visual arts in the school curriculum, including philosophical and social foundations
for visual arts education.

Description: This is my teaching philosophy that describes what I think is most important as a teacher. My main concern as a teacher is my students well being and doing the best I can to support them in every way that I can in my classroom.

Rationale: I created this teaching philosophy to showcase who I am as a future teacher.

Evidence: I believe that every student deserves a chance to be seen and supported in their life. I want to do all I can as a teacher to create a safe space in my classroom for all students and support their needs.  As an art teacher, I want to stress the idea of self-expression and identity in my classroom so my students can learn from others and recognize that everyone is different while creating the art that they love.  I love art and creating, and I want to be able to share that passion with my students and help them to improve their skills.

Description: I found this artists website while looking for artists for a lesson. Her name is Brenda Lynn Robinson but goes by Aminah. She creates work depicting lives of African Americans in a variety of different ways. This website has artwork and explanations as well as a tab for students and teachers that has great resources and lesson plans.

Rationale:
I stumbled upon this artist's website when searching for artists to show my students. I am always looking for fun, interesting, and unique artists to include in my lessons to engage my students with and to learn from myself.

Description: I visited a Christmas market with hundreds of venders who created Christmas decorations by recycling old vintage and second hand items. All the venders had their own unique style and a variety of different kinds of work to purchase.

Rationale: These vender art markets are fun to attend during the holidays because you can get some cute Christmas ideas while also supporting small artists. It's also fun getting inspiration from the work they are creating in unique ways that I may have never thought about before.

1.

Description: Over the summer I did an internship at Chesterton Art Center in Chesterton, Indiana where I worked in the office, taught and co taught summer art classes to kids, worked with the high school art club kids and created lessons for future summer camps. Earlier this semester while back at school, I got to continue my work I started during the summer. I helped to choose and fine tune the art camp lessons that would be taught at the Boys and Girls Club this year. The image I have to the right, is an art journal that the students would create as they went on a nature walk through the dunes and nature preserve near the Boys and Girls Club in Indiana.

Rationale: I started these lessons and wanted to see them through, so I continued to help finish creating, planning, and executing these lessons that would be taught. This art journal is a great way for students to learn to record what they see and experience in a fun and creative way.

2.

Description: I volunteered at an event at Graymont Elementary School where I work. This event is called "Make and Take" where students spend the whole day rotating around to different classrooms through out the day creating crafts and small DIY projects to take home to their families for Christmas.

Rationale: I love my students here and wanted to be a part of this event that they all love so much. It was a fun expereince to be a part of and to work with different age levels at the same time as they are all creating the same thing.

Evidence: Make and Take
